Ladismith 8 year old Cape Brandy has recently been awarded a double gold medal at the 2017 installment of the prestigious Los Angeles International Spirits Competition.
Since introducing a spirits category in 2007, the LAISC has set the standard for judging distilled beverages. Each year an esteemed panel of judges use a blind-tasting method to award medals to the best spirits from around the world, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism set 77 years ago by its partner wine competition.
Ladismith managed to outclass many international brandy offerings on its way to double gold medal glory (best in class), its Klien Karoo origins clearly shining through and impressing the judging panel.
But then with dried fruit, apricot and citrus on the nose, with a symphony of tropical fruit in the mouth
and swallow that is soft, complex and well balanced, were not entirely surprised with the result.
It’s an important win for a humble brandy, produced in limited quantities in the sleepy town of Ladismith, and shows the calibre and quality that our Cape Brandy has to offer international audiences.
As Cape Brandy gears up to reach more foreign markets with our superior quality offering, it’s a result that certainly goes a long way in helping our cause.
Well done Ladismith, we salute you!
