The 2016 installation of RMB Winex was the perfect opportunity to showcase some of the finest Cape Brandy to a wine loving market.
The 2017 edition of the RMB Winex saw a very fresh face in the line up. Nestled cosily between some of the finest wine brands in the country, was a stand boasting some of the finest Cape Brandies in the country.
Proudly on show at this years Winex were a range of Cape Brandies to suit every palate – from the youthful and vibrant to the sophisticated and confident, we had a Cape Brandy to match every personality that stopped by for a tasting.
The fruit-filled and lively younger collection consisted of Windmeul’s brand new VSOP, Tokara’s 5 year old, Joseph Barry VSOP, and Ladismith’s 8 year old Cape Brandy. Moving up in years and maturity we had the fabulous XO’s from Upland and Joseph Barry as well as the sublime Backsberg 15 year old.
Unfortunately show rules limited us to only show 7 of our ever expanding Cape Brandy family, but check out the full compliment on our Producers page.
The stand itself was a constant buzz of interested wine-goers, from those with very little knowledge or appreciation of Cape Brandy to the hardened Cognac and Malt Whisky fans.
We certainly had our hands full running this diverse crowd through the splendors and unknowns of Cape Brandy, and left the arena on Friday night a little tired, but totally convinced there were a lot more Cape Brandy fans out in the City of Gold that night.
Two personal “Table Talk” events were also held on the Thursday and Friday nights of the show, which saw us pair 3 different Cape Brandies against 3 superbly handcrafted 70% dark chocolates form artisan producer DV Chocolates in Paarl.
10 lucky people quick on the draw were able to attend this event and reveled in the magical flavour combinations unlocked in a Cape Brandy and Chocolate pairing.
For the record, and for those who wish to recreate these match ups, the following were paired:
Winex 2016 was a great success for Cape Brandy, and we’ll definitely be back in 2017. We look forward to seeing more Cape Brandy lovers (and creating a few more!) at the stand next year. Save the date: 25-27 October 2017. See you there!
